A lot has happened throughout the years to form Canada's identity. In the 1960's, Quebec experienced the Quiet Revolution, which increased their desire to no longer be apart of Canada. The government handled this issue in a way so that they could try and hear everybody, which ended up hurting the country more than helping it. In 1995, a provincial referendum was called and 50.6% of Quebec voted against the separation. The people of Quebec felt as if they had few things in common with the rest of the country and wanted french to be the main language. The way that this issue was handled solved little to none of the problem, and Quebec remains apart of Canada. Aboriginal Issues were another huge part of our Canadian Identity. Although the First Nations did ask for a lot, the government did a very poor job in meeting they needs. The years were long, and the Aboriginal peoples were not getting their basic human rights, which the federal government later apologized for and offered $350 million dollars to those who were abused in residential schools.
